Who's Who on the M.I.N.I. List page 1
Mark Andrews buldogge@inlink.com
Well I'll take a spin now... sorry for the bandwith:
Mark Andrews, 31... Born 9-26-68 Taunton, Massachusetts (east coast, New England) USA... Currently live in St. Louis Missouri (Mid-America) where I attended university (degreed in Architecture)... recently married to longtime partner Becky... One child 12... Mark Jr...by previous.. umm.. relationship. 3 dogs...(2 ancient Boxers, 1 Olde Bulldog puppy)... Acquired my Mini 'Wedge' 2 years ago (so named by my wife, for it being "the wedge between us"). I imported it from Paris... Its a 1974 Innocenti 1300 Mini Cooper (1293 with the usual mild mods, plus 1.5 full rollers, coil-over suspension, alloy 4-pots, and 6x10 Revolutions). I'm currently building a 1375 (+.60/84mm stroker) 7-port head,turbo/fuel injection/directfire ignition, SCCR box, LSD... Aside from my Mini we've got a 1962 Buick Skylark 215 (nee rover 3.5) with many mods, a 1963 Ford Falcon Futura (289 many mods)... Our everyday "practical cars" are another F*@d (I know what your thinking now) F-150 pickem-up (Ya gotta have this to haul engines, bikes, and such) and a new VW Passat 1.8 turbo wagon (planning ahead for the kids!)... I'm also heavily into the traditional scooter scene (Vespas/Lammys) owning 12 or so (many heavily modified...watercooling, "big-bore", etc.)...and I have a 1993 Hondas NSR250 with the usual pipes/filter/jettings... What can I say I like my toys... Outside of all things motorized/tuned I enjoy travelling and my one vice... EATING good food (my one gripe with the UK!...ok I love the chippys and the curry but other sitdown "nice" restaraunts are bland and overpriced... I spent way to much $$$/###)...
Oh yeah, to fund all this unecessary indulgence I work as a tattoo artist, (no I've never held an architecture job :) well actually, I sometimes work as a tattoo artist,...mostly I just own/run my shop... Iron Age Tattoo. I've been to the UK twice and failed to meet any listers, only a couple of their cars :)... looking forward to IMM2000 and hanging out with everyone... Welll, I guess that's all of it then...

George Argiris gargyris@hotmail.com
As a newcomer (about a couple of months ago) to the list, I doubt if anybody knows me, so I will have to be longer than Rocky :
George Argiris (or Argyris), 53, born in Athens, Greece ("chosen by the Gods" tourist's advertisement) living down here ever since. University graduate in Law, followed an automotive career (with passion!!) as marketing and publicity Manager for Fiat Greece. Trained at Fiat U.K. for about 6 months in 1974/5. I enjoyed England and English humour (still do with Scott's teasing from listers) & traveled with my brand new Innocenti Mini Cooper 1.3 (with Greek plates & LHD) 2.400 kms to reach it. Wood & Pickett kept it most of the time to modify it till my return home but, managed to travel to the Highlands and the sea.
Married to Mariella, two children, Nicolas (son) 20, in his 3rd year studying Psychology at Royal Holloway University in UK and Alexandra studying Photography in Athens. Two white Labradors in the house (mother & daughter) Birba & Balloo. Presently, Project Manager of a Greek multinational consortium investing in various activities in the Balkans and ex-Eastern Europe. Speak fluently Greek (mother language), French & English. A little bit less of German & Italian.
First Mini in 1965 (Seven), rallied a little and sold it after it rolled. Upgraded (1968) to Works prepared Cooper 1.3 (649 or 639 cam ?) with bored out engine, used it first for circuit racing & hill climbing then, modified it for rally use. Followed the Greek rally championship & the Int'l Acropolis. Shekhar Mehta (world champ & Kenya Safari winner) convinced me to have a sponsorship from Datsun and therefore sold it & moved to a Datsun 1600SSS rally prepared which gave me the 2nd position in the Greek rally champ in 1972.
Second Mini the Innocenti Cooper 1.3 in 1974 which was sold around 1980, replaced by a 230SL hard-top Mercedes, totally rebuild by me in Mercedes Freibourg affiliate. Next was a 1971 Mercedes 6.3 (what a car !), followed by a MB 250T Station wagon. Bought back my Innocenti a couple of years ago and is under total rebuilt again. Should be on the road mid-February. Have met all the nice people of that time, Paddy Hopkirk, Timo Makinen, Rauno, Tony Fall and the rest. I like computers & am sort of techie. I enjoy travelling, have been all around Europe, US, Africa and would like to visit Japan and Central Asia (Nepal, Thibet,etc.).
I am preparing my website at the moment with many MINI competition pictures of the 60s & 70s, specially the Acropolis Rally. If you haven't seen Timo live using the hand-brake on a hill climb you haven't seen anything !!!
Wish to all the fellow listers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year (who cares if some call it a Millenium ?).
George

Arnoud Bordewijk e-mail withheld by request
Well, here goes:
My name's Arnoud R. Bordewijk and I'm 27 years old. I live in the village of Soest, right in the centre of the Netherlands (Europe;) in a nice apartment on the 10th floor with a great view. I recently was able to buy a garage really close by (if spending USD 20.000 just to keep your mini dry isn't love, then I don't know what is;). I make a living by valueing people's houses and taxing them accordingly on behalf of the small town I work for. Since prices are skyrocketing (averaging USD 350-400,000 for a semi-detached now), I'm not the best loved person in that town, but somebody's got to do it:). I am still single, but I read there's Hope in Florida:). I divide my sparetime between two mini's (1963 Cooper and 1987 ParkLane), two small (10ft long) 1960's caravans (or trailers), six Apple Mac's, two turtles and my modeltrains (not in that particular order). Currently I'm not working because of a sustained whiplash caused in a freak swimming pool accident, which explains the time of posting: I'm getting pretty bored after two months. Still: I get paid all the same, so that's good:)
I think that about covers it: NEXT!
Arnoud
Gerard Brady gerard@minis.ndo.co.uk
Gerard Brady, age 17, lived in Glasgow all my life. I am a member of Scotland's best Mini club - The Mini Clan.
I became interested in Minis at the start of 1997 and in October of that year I bought my first Mini - a Gold 1986 Piccadilly. It cost £125 . I was assured it only needed handbrake pivots. Two and a half years later I'm just beginning to piece the bare shell back together :-(
In October 1998 I bought a 1982 Mayfair for £100 to strip for spares for the Piccadilly. Or so the plan was... I couldn't bring myself to destroy a good Mini so I MOT'd it at the end of December and in January 1999 it was traded in for our latest Mini - a mint condition 1995 flame red Mayfair. I got £450 for the Mayfair so at least all was not lost!
At the moment (Jan 2000) my gold Mini is nearing MOT time - just have to fit the subframes, engine and other bits needed. I'm also still learning to drive - although I've just applied for my theory test so soon I'll be driving, fingers crossed.
I live near a couple of Mini-Listers - Gordon Welsh and Doogie Brodie. We've not yet had a mini Mini-List meeting but I'm sure I could persuade them to come to a Mini Clan meeting.
I've got a website - GBs Mini Site, http://members.tripod.co.uk/GerardBrady It has loads of pictures from Mini@40 at Silverstone. I also have a noticeboard frequented by loads of people (whom all meet up at Mini shows) and I have a yahoo club http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/mininet
Also in the pipeline is a Mini supersite which I am building with a friend, Si Demmery. It is www.mininet.co.uk and should be completed sometime in the summer cos we've not got time just now. :-(

Doogie Brodie, born '77 in Edinburgh. Currently living in Hamilton (near Glasgow). Finally got sick of cycling 150 miles a week to work and back, so bought first Mini April '99, passed driving test August '99 :-) Live with 1 Mini ('92 Sprite called Mini - 0/10 for imagination!) ,2 cats (Leo and Simba) girlfriend (Laura) lives here 50% of the time. Have a wonderful daughter (Chloe) who lives with her mum in Edinburgh since our separation. (still waiting for the divorce.....) I work in Glasgow for DX Communications (http://www.dxcomms.co.uk) as a computer programmer. (VB/ Web/ Access/ Oracle/ SQL Server etc, etc) Seriously into tattoos / piercings etc. currently have 6 tatt's, (not little ones!) some _really_ old pictures of them can be found at http://start.at/doogie I'm going to redo it within the next little while with Laura's new digital camera coz they've all been redone. Have 4 piercings (tongue and 3 genital) used to have more but grown/ ripped out etc. <OUCH!> Will put up pics of Mini too when I redo site. Obsession with spending lots of money on DVDs/ other home cinema stuff, which should be spent on Mini :-|

Henk Burgler hburgler@hotmail.com
My turn,
I am Henk Burgler and live in the north of the Netherlands, Gorredijk to be precise. Last time I checked I was 32 y.o., single and no kids or pets. Love to have cats but I am to often away from home to take care of them. I work for Siemens in Zoetermeer and my current work is to repair programming devices and other computer stuff related to Process Automation. I am on this list since about the end of 95 but don't post a lot. One is the lack of indepth tech-know-how the other is I am on the real time list but only read it 1-3 times a day and anwsers are already given. Been to several meets IMM/MLM/CC - trackday etc. and met a lot of others through this.
Hobbies are karting and cycling. Used to race 125cc karts, (KTM/Birel) and a little bit 250cc (Rotax/Zip) even did a bit of dragracing, 1/8 mile, with the 125cc. Great to embarass the Chevy streetmachine guys. After racing too much in the rain I decided I wanted to race something with a roof on. And closest to karting is the Mini. (Although not nearly as fast, but handling is almost similar). Now only involved in organizing kartraces just the real work, outdoor and 2-stroke racing.
When the weather is right I like to cycle. Not only day trips but also holidays where the bicycle is the main transport. When the Mini was of the road I used the bike to go to IMM in Ireland. Other bicycletrips were in France and 2 years ago in North Vietnam and Thailand. Early next year Laos will be added to the list and in 2001 Trondheim - Oslo, a 540 km trip in 36 hours.
Carpark includes a Fraud Courier diesel as a daily driver (at the moment I live 200km from work, you don't want to do that a couple of times a week on 10 litres/100km using unleaded gas).
'83 Leyland 1000 HLE AKA Joker, little bit of work done on the engine as the former owner used it on trackdays while working on his racemini. Don't use it a lot as it has no MOT at the moment. Needs a few panel replacements.
'63 Morris Mini Minor 850 AKA Lucy. Named after the girlfriend of the guy I bought it from. Bought it, stored it, only cleaned it a bit. Is original and complete and came with some extra parts like 'S'disk brakes, set of minilights and the original wheels. Want to bring it back to original but will probably be sold to my friend for historic racing. Need the space and money.
'83 Leyland 1000 HLE Shell will be used to built a Se7en racer. Am collecting parts for this project. Been to several Se7en races in the last 2 years to see how it's done and how not to do it. Don't know when it will be on the track but I hope somewhere in the second half of this year. Problem is there are too many things I like and want to do and this is one of the most time and money consuming.
Happy New Year to all and see you at meets somewhere in this world.
Henk

John Carter JMCarter49@aol.com
As it has been asked where's my bio - John M. Carter - born in Independence, Kansas on November 12, 1949. Fell in love with the Mini in 1963, and started with a '60 850. Currently have a '66 Cooper 'S and a '67 1000 ( Mk2 ). I have owned, driven, and worked on Mini's for the last 36+ years. Gone the 850 to 1100 cc route, 1275 to 1380 route, am working on the 1380 to 1430 route - engine is together, building transmission and will have the package together and ready to bolt in soon. I am married ( and have been for the last 23+ years to the same beautiful woman ) with four children (three boys and a girl ). Spent just short of 9 years on active duty with the US Air Force and the remainder in the reserves to retirement. Degree in CS from the University of Kansas. Currently work for HP in Atlanta Georgia.

Well here goes - Rob Carver, born in1954 in San Manuel, Arizona, USA. Married to Chris, owner of '61 Austin Countryman ( not on road, but hopefully soon ). Brian, 17, is helping me resurrect '66 Cooper 998 that was run off the road into a parked car a few years ago ( hit & run victim - if I coulda run down the SOB on foot ......). Sean, 20 is watching us.....hmmm. 3 cats, a dog and oh yeah, '65 Cooper S 1275 big valve I sneak out now & then, (not registered, but hey catch me). Been to a few West Coast Mini Meets, the first Denver Meet, Donington, the old BL Heritage Museum- by the butterflies, where I got to sit in the '65 Monte Winner, Beaulieu Abbey, Longbridge, Runamoke, the GTM factory/hay barn/ fab shop out in the boonies, lotsa Air Museums, here in Murica and in Yurp, numerous slaloms, vintage races, and Car Museums, ( alas, poor Briggs, I miss you a lot), Seen a lot of Minis and owned a few. First drive - '65 Mustang Fastback - damn, I wish I still had it. First Mini - '64 850 with MG 1100 engine - sadly, car now deceased ( lost brakes first, argument with BIG Detroit Iron second ) Longest Mini drive - San Diego to Denver & back in '66 Cooper with no mech. malfunctions. ( howthehell?) 3 Minis and a Honda S600 convertible sports car will fit in a standard 2-car suburban garage, if carefully arranged. Daily drivers: '90 VW Westy for camping, '99 Suburban for runnin' over slammed rice rockets ( they are like a**holes out here, everyone's got one ), '92 GM Metro convertible for bugs in my hair, ( my official micro-car ). Worked at a Chevy dealer as a lad, sure liked fit & finish check rides in Corvettes, but other GM products generally sucked. Sold nuts & bolts for 20 years, now sell rigging. I can lie to you with the best about fasteners, or you can e-mail me and I'll try to help. I've managed to latch on to few manuals & such, but not many Mini mags.
Be Seeing You,
Rob in Dago
Terry Colby colby@wingdriver.com.au
Hi Guys.
My turn.
My name is Terry, and I was produced in 1965 along with Boris my Mini. I've had a love affair with Minis since I was about 13. (Now 34)
About 13 years ago I met Kim who changed my life completely, and nine years ago I left my (dead-end) marriage to another for her.
Kim brought her two children from her going-nowhere marriage, and we got together.
About 3 years ago I spotted Boris in a wreckers yard complete and wrangled him from their grip. I set about getting him on the road, and drove him daily up until last Tuesday week ago, when we added a third registered car to our fleet, and now he can be afforded the serious attention that cannot be completed in a weekend as he richly deserves.
Kim drives our new F@%d Fairmont (V.Nice Vehicle!), Whilst I commute now in the 1985 Berlina. Boris resides in the carport, to be driven at my whim - how it should be.
Kim's first reaction when I brought him home was "What the hell are you going to do with that little thing???" I've since shown her, converted her, and we also have now a 1964 Panelvan (hers) in the lean-to to be restored after Boris. I'll also mention Doris the Donor car (a modest total of 3 Minis). Minis are a way of life. They are infectious.
Wouldn't have them any other way.

Have a 1974 MarkIII Mini 1000 with Metro turbo engine. Also 1967 Moke. I have a web page <www.xnet.com/minitrbo> but as of late December 1999 there's not much Mini stuff there. Too busy removing my Minis engine and dropping heavy things on my thumb. ;-)
As I write this I am only 24 hours away from one year since I became smitten with Minis. I was spending New Years Eve 1998 with my wife at her friends boyfriends (Corbin) house. At two hours before midnight we went over to his "used car store" (Pantera, Jaguar XKE, Minis, .........) and I fell in love with the Mini. Bought many books, read, read, read, joined the M.I.N.I. list, read, read, read, bought Turbo in February, sight-unseen (save for e-mailed pictures) from 2000 miles away, and the rest is history. :-)
I can hardly be accused of lurking, but here goes.... Steve Dix, age 33, single, English, from Rugeley in Staffordshire, currently living in Cologne, Germany. Owns two cars - a Sylva Striker kit car named Little Dragon that I built myself, and a 1.3i Mini named Foggy. more about them on http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/2706/ Occupation : Internet programmer and developer. Adding my 2p...
Simon Dummett, 24, born in Salisbury, Wilts UK but now living in Leeds, West Yorkshire (God's own country, so I'm told ;-)
Married to Jane, no kids, one big fat black & white cat called Buster.
I'm on my second Mini, a 1988 (F) Mayfair 998 auto nicknamed the DWarF (see http://blue-dwarf.8m.com for some pics). I'm looking to up this to a 1380 auto in future but more about that to come.
I've been a Mini fan since before I could remember. It's true - from conception to birth, Mummy was carried round by a Clubby. The day I was born, the head gasket, head and block finally went terminal so I came home from the hospital in an Austin 1300, which is nearly a Mini. Since then it's been 2 Maxis which are like BIG Minis, a Volvo (ugh...) then Stinker, a 1984 (A) Sprite 998 which, due to lack of funds became a grasstracker :-(
I work for First Direct (telephone banking) in the Electronic Services team (PC & Mobile Phone Banking) but unfortunately have no email access at work so I spend scandalous amounts of money on dial-up at home reading the messages on the list ;-)
So, that's me. If you've read this far, thanks, if not, well you just don't know me at all... ;-)

Rocky Frisco rock@rocky-frisco.com
I guess I'm the opposite of a lurker, but here goes:
Rocky Frisco, age 62, July 26, 1937. Professional pianist since 1957. Mini racer in the 60's in Canada, where I worked for IBM World Trade as a field service rep. Founder of original Mini Car Club of Canada. Did car stunts for the CBC special "The Marshalls." Drove Mini #15 in the preliminary races for the Canadian Grand Prix for Formula 1, Mosport 1967. I used my legal name at the time, Don Joseph, so that's what's on the program and the side of my car. Changed name soon thereafter to Rocky Frisco, the stage name I used when playing music. Quit IBM in 1968 and never did the 9 to 5 deal again.
I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a terribly corrupt city in a culturally backward hick state in a country that has forgotten its original principles and whose "leaders" are all liars.
Car: The Luggage, 1293 Cooper S engine and suspension, highly modified; new mark V bodyshell and subframes; basic rebuild completed October 25th, 1999; now doing interior and final touches.
Strong Likes: The Blues, Rock and Roll, Motorsport, Minis, T-series MG's, Bugatti type 35's, Terry Pratchett, Terry's books, visiting friends in the UK and Europe, acting in films.
Strong dislikes: pornography (not a porn-fighter, just don't personally like it), SPAM (no, not the canned meat, even though I am a vegetarian), the New Mini (sorry, just being honest), Rap "music," Buick, Inc., politicians.
Did I forget anything? ;)

Yeehhhh, me now. I must be the first Australian that has sent in. Born in Armidale, New South Wales. Lived on a farm until 1989, where my family moved to sunny Queensland. I went to a boarding school for 5 years which explains my warped sense of humour. And social skills as well, I dare say. Finished school in 1994, attended university at University of Queensland doing a Bachelor of Information Technology. Doing last subject now, as a result of working part-time while studying. Full time job doing web applications and e-commerce sites.
I bought my mini in '96 off my neighbour. Mum said to me "At least it will be a cheap car!" HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. Kinda funny cause when I bought the car it took me 15 minutes to find the dipstick (Apart from the one in front of the car). That is how mechanically apt I was.
Joined the list in middle of '98 I think. Since then my knowledge of mechanical stuff has exploded from nothing to twice that. (HA HA HA) No really, it has improved. I'm about to break my engine apart over Xmas holidays to replace the idler bearing. Should be interesting. Almost ready to fit race head. that will be interesting as well.
Anyhow, enough bandwidth wasted.
c ya!
Angus.

My Mini has been off the road for a couple of years due to a my girlfriend (Jenny) having a baby girl (Deanna) . So I was forced to get a F*rd Orion as it has four doors and 4 seats which a pickup does not ! So it had to come off the road. Bought myself a Mini estate to take my family to the 40th birthday which was great fun ! Needs to come of the road soon (planning on dropping a k-series engine into it) so over Christmas (1999) I am getting the pickup ready for a MOT.
Well that's it for me !
