Richard Hince

This is me, born 1961, got my first mini about 15 years ago and kept it for 5 years, and now I’ve got another one; I was spurred into getting one again after working on my son Sean’s mini for 8 months. It took that long, because he was paying for it, and he’s usually broke....

The car I’m building at the moment is a 1982 Mayfair, whatever that is. I think in the distant past it was silver, but it’s now pageant blue with a white roof (well, it will be - I’m in the middle of spraying it those colours). It’s going to have a 998 motor, lightened crank / flywheel, MG metro cam, LCB plus the usual stage 1 stuff. Oh yes, it’s got a fibreglass flip front too. Don’t know what it’ll go like but it should be OK. Besides the mini I also have a turbo technics XR2 (160+ bhp), a T reg astra CDX 1.8i (boringggg!! Good for fetching mini parts in though, you’d be surprised what you can get in that boot) and a Suzuki Bandit bike, which I now use mainly in the summer months. Me? Speed freak? Naaaaah....

Rob James

Hi, this is Rob James and Toad. I live in Warwick and work as a graphic designer for a games company. Toad is my second mini and is a 1991 Rover Cooper, I have owned him for the last 2 years. He was very standard when I bought him and I have mainly added cosmetic stuff, Toad has an MDF dashboard which I sprayed BRG and added chrome bezels. He also has a Maniflow exhaust, WP arches, alloy interior bits 3 extra dials and Red Ryder shocks all round. Toad as of December 1999 had covered 84,000 miles.

Scott A Beavis

Famous for his mad ideas for space age minis, and drives Borris, the heavily modified 1310cc ‘84 Mayfair. Borris is known around the world for his crap paint work, and the fact that he leaks vast quantities of oil wherever he goes. The old removable bonnet has now been replaced by a fibreglass front end, and the interior, for once, is looking quite smart. The neighbours think he is a complete headcase because he is always working on the car at crazy times of the night and in the worst of British weather. Scott likes to think that his car is the quickest in town and can often be found bragging about the GTis and RS-Turbos that Borris has devoured!
